10 Things Why Attack On Titan: Movie Broke My Heart

I was stoked when I saw the trailer and various teasers of the upcoming movie of Attack On Titan (Shingeki No Kyojin) last year. It was said that it will be release on 2018 but due to public demand and many AOT fans, which can’t wait for 4 more years, they came in this year as a big treat. But unfortunately, this is not what I totally expected.

I’ve been an avid fan since last year ever since I saw my Tumblr feeds being bombarded with the Corps costumes and Titan memes. I got curious and my boyfriend, Yobo, instantly became avid fans when we started watching the series and reading the manga.

For those who are not familiar with this anime, Attack On Titan (Shingeki No Kyojin) is a popular Anime who talks about how big monsters called Titans attack the human race. The only protection that the humans have are the three walls called Maria, Rose and Sina. They are also being protected by the 3 Legions such as the Stationary Troops (reinforcing the walls and protecting the town), Survey/Recon Legion (ready to sacrifice their lives outside the wall and to engage with the titans)  and the Military Police (who regulate the population and maintain order).

Last August 12, 2015, AOT got released and as I said before, it just broke my heart and I was so disappointed with the adaptation of the movie. Yobo and I are now thinking twice if we should still watch the 2nd part on September 19. Remember the Dragon Balls Live Action and Ruruoni Kenshin Live Action? Well this is another one.

Here are the 10 reasons why AOT movie broke my heart.

1.) The storyline was definitely different from the manga and anime.
- Younger Mikasa being attacked by a Titan for saving a baby.
The graphics and cinematography was a thumbs up, but as far as the story goes the only part they’ve got right was the part where Eren got swallowed and became a Titan but there are still parts that are still not accurate.

2.) They’ve murdered Mikasa.
- Mikasa Ackerman.
AOT fans knows how Mikasa have this “flat affect”, but she just became too soft and not edgy enough. The part how she became good at slaying Titans was really different from the Anime where she should have undergone a training with Eren and Armin in the first place.

3.) Armin’s character is better than Eren’s.
- Armin leading the Scouting Legions.
Armin was really more of the logical type rather than the physique type but you can feel Armin’s impact than Eren. Eren was just not that cool and edgy in how he faces problems and the trauma from the Titan experience.

4.) It revolved around Eren’s feelings.
- Younger Mikasa, Eren and Armin wondering what is beyond the wall.
He was more curious of getting out of the wall and how he values his feelings for Mikasa. As far as I can remember, Mikasa was the one who is starting to get attach with Eren not the other way around.

5.) Levi was replaced by Shikishima and he became a playboy.
- Shikishima.
Not only did they failed to actually get Levi’s features, he was also replaced, he became like Mikasa’s boyfriend which was really and totally out of the picture.

6.) AOT became Ecchi.
- Hiana seduing Eren.
Ecchi means lewd, sexy or perverted in Japanese. There were scenes which I am 100% sure that are not really part of the anime and manga. Good thing they were eaten by Titans. *evil grins*

7.) Titans features.
- Titans at Wall Maria.
As far as the Titans features, well I must say they just became like big people which became not too scary for me, unlike in the anime and manga which really give me the creeps and even got me imagining that I was being attacked by one.

8.) Some characters where not accurate.
- Younger Mikasa, Eren and Armin.
Well Armin’s hair was definitely not black, they should have made him blonde. Mikasa’s bangs were supposed to cover her face.

9.) They failed to play the famous AOT song or soundtrack.
- Eren making doing the pledge of the Scouting Legion.
They should have started the movie with the sound track to give set the atmosphere, but unfortunately they’ve failed.

10.) AOT became a love story.
- Eren kissing Mikasa.
Well we all dream of happy endings and kissing in the end, but that is not the thing for AOT. Where did all the cool stuff go? It was just replaced with all the mushy stuff.

Well we can’t really assume that Animes and Mangas can actually be accurate once they go in the big screen. They usually just became “inspired by” most of the time (which explains the change of story line most of the time). I am starting to conclude that cosplays are better rather than movie adaptations.

I am also starting to hear and read rumors that they are also planning to make live actions for One Piece and Naruto. In my opinion, can we just let it stay in Anime and Manga – forever?
